Trusts as a Cornerstone of Succession Planning 2024 (webinar)
For many years, family trusts have been used as a cornerstone of estate planning and holding financial wealth.
A massive intergenerational transfer of financial wealth is currently underway from the Baby Boomer generation. Much of that wealth is held in family trusts.
Each trust and each family is unique. Lifetime and on-death transitions need to be carefully planned to ensure a smooth and orderly succession of assets. Where that financial wealth is held in trust, other complexities arise.
- Are trusts still a suitable cornerstone structure?
- Are the terms of the existing trust still appropriate?
- What should we be thinking about?
- What challenges and problems can arise?
- Where wealth is to continue being held in trust, what can be done to help the rising generation of beneficiaries live well with a trust in their life?
When trust transitions go well, trust beneficiaries can flourish. When they go poorly, the resulting hurt can negatively impact generations for years to come.
NOW is the time for ensuring trusts and forward plans are up to date and will practically work to ensure the required outcomes are delivered.
In this webinar Lindsay will share observations, ideas and tips from a 45 year career of professional trusteeship and guiding private families, trustees and advisers in transitioning intergenerational wealth.
Upon satisfactory completion of this activity you will be able to:
- appreciate more clearly many of the practical issues and challenges associated with transitioning wealth held on trust
- identify opportunities for strengthening trusts, forward planning and leading new conversations with clients, trustees and beneficiaries
This course will be suited to:
- professional advisers (legal, accounting and investment) providing advice and guidance to trust clients
- trustees and trust administrators
