Share Trading vs Share Investing 2025 (webinar)
In recent years with the advent of simple share platforms such as Sharesies and Hatch, taxpayers have had easier access to buying and selling shares. While most taxpayers consider themselves share investors, due to the level of transactions and the increased use of these platforms, IRD have been reviewing these platforms to determine if investors are actually share traders.
Often, we hear that taxpayers are share traders when losing money and investors when profits are being made.
Of course, the distinction is not based on how much tax you will pay, but on the actions of the taxpayer. The outcome may also differ depending upon the underlying investment.
Learning Outcomes
This course will look to outline the factors to determine if a taxpayer is a “share trader” and also outline the implications of this for common investments both onshore and offshore.
The course will be suited to those actively investing and those acting for active investors.
