Understanding Working for Families Tax Credits 2018 – Auckland Ellerslie

From 1 April 2011 a new definition of Family Scheme Income was legislated for determining a person’s entitlement to:

  • Working for Families Tax Credit (WFFTC)
  • Student Loans
  • the Community Services Card
  • Liability for Child Support payments
  • Parental Income for Student Allowances

In this practical course, we look at this definition. We review the legislative definition and how it is interpreted by the various organisations that administer it. This will include a review of the policy and guidelines from Inland Revenue. We will also review the rules and qualifications criteria for each type of WFFTC along with some changes that have occurred since TEO’s 2017 course.

We will use examples and case studies to identify and clarify some of the difficulties that have arisen over recent years, especially for individuals operating through business structures such as companies and trusts.
